Just went to see the Marvel film about the Asgard god.

It was pretty good, but I was disappointed that the hero was portrayed as dramatically less intelligent and devious than I would have otherwise expected. As such it was much harder to root for him and I ended up paying more attention to the supporting cast's love lives than they really deserved.

Other than that though, an excellent film with some really very pretty visuals.

Things which my phone does, that my computer does not:
1. Fit in my pocket.
2. Make telephone calls.
3. Play hi-definition h.264 encoded video in an MKV container.

Somewhere along the line, I cannot help but think something has gone wrong here.

My Shame

[livejournal.com profile] oxfordgirl is blackmailing me for use of her printer.

"(11:26:36 AM) Helen Walter: blog your shame and you may use my printer :P"

Therefore, as I really quite need to be able to print stuff out for my Jobseekers meeting tomorrow, here goes!

I admit that I totally don't know which large bodies of water in Oxford with canal boats and locks on them are Oxford Canal, and which large bodies of water in Oxford with canal boats and locks on them are not Oxford Canal.

Full disclosure... )

I just watched Panty & Stocking (with Garterbelt).
As far as I can tell, someone took Ren & Stimpy, pasted on some pubescent Powerpuff Girls, and then filled the mutant monstrosity to bursting point with JAPAN.
I am so confused.

So, having successfully avoided having [livejournal.com profile] anotherusedpage post this instead of me, I would like to invite anyone available to a house warming type thing on Friday 15th. If you're an Oxford roleplayer-type I'd love to see you. If you're someone else who knows me, either Oxford based or not, I'd love to see you too. Seeing as I have no desire to publish my home address on a public internet page, gimme an email or IM (this username at gmail will work for email, GTalk, and MSN).

If you know anyone who should be coming who isn't on my friends list (there are plenty) then let them know, I don't necessarily have ways of contacting everyone I'd like to invite.

Srsly?

Can someone who is seeing Jessie in London tomorrow give me a buzz between 10-2 as they go through Frideswide sq in order to pick up her phone? She won't be able to do it, because she doesn't have her phone...

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] logmplus1: A meme of the more important things in life. Mostly this is intended for characters you tend to play, but feel free to answer for yourself if you prefer. I give you the 'whisk me away to a life of adventure' meme:

1. Would you prefer to rescue or be rescued?
It is the duty of those who can bring salvation to rescue those who cannot save themselves.

2. Adventure beckons. Do you need forcing, or do you leap into action?
First, could you explain why you are still standing there?

3. The phone rings. An anonymous voice says you have one minute to get out of the house, before they come for you. What do you do?
Grab weapon, leave.

4. If you were attacked right now by ninjapiratezombiegoblins, what would you use to defend yourself?
Fanatics, preferably other peoples.

5. What form of media would best be used to commemorate your adventures (books, movies, improvised street theatre etc)?
Stories are told person to person, across a fire or while travelling. Pinning them down kills them.

6. What songs would be on your soundtrack?
The songs of my people, both hereditary and adopted.

7. The world is in peril from evil scientists. Only a small band of mis-matched heroes can save it. Which side are you on?
The world is still here, which side were you on?

8. When picking a stylish evening outfit, how much does practicality become a consideration?
If it will slow a weapon and hasten my pace, that is enough.

9. When picking a practical adventuring outfit, how much does style become a consideration?
Slow a weapon, hasten my pace. Stop asking the same questions.

10. As sexual tensions simmer during the tango, fortunes are won and lost in the casino and secrets are bought or stolen in the bar, where are you and what are you doing?
Outside the tent, listening to the conversations inside and out.

11. How much of a team do you ideally prefer to work with, or do you usually operate alone?
3 or 4 competent team mates.

12. What sort of future prospects would your love interest or sidekick have? Is it worth them enquiring about the pension fund?
I give them even odds of outliving me.

13. Trapped in the barn and tied to a post. Your captor takes some of the tools down from the wall to sharpen, in preparation for your impending DOOM, leaving you alone for a few moments. What do you do now?
Makes sure they never forget the experience.

14. News of the death of your sidekick/partner/love interest reaches you by letter. How could this have happened?
Presumably I wasn't secretive enough.

15. Revenge is a dish best served how?
In the face. With an axe.

16. An anonymous letter invites you to a clandestine meeting. Do you go?
Perhaps. Depends how much I already knew about the meeting, and how many people I can suround it with.

17. What is the correct number of knives?
One more than you think you need.

18. What would be your perfect date?
A short moonlit walk in the woods.

19. If the perfect date was interrupted by Zombie Apocalypse, how would you react?
With an axe.

20. Did your perfect date already include a Zombie Apocalypse before question 19? In hindsight, would you have changed your answer?
Only once. But the zombie didn't catch our faces.

21. Have you been on many dates which would have been improved by global armageddon?
Each one is one step closer to preventing it.

22. How competently could you disguise yourself?
Not as well as some I know.

23. Is there space for romance in the course of your adventures?
I appear to be surrounded by several.

24. How well do you cope with sudden shifts in genre and pace?
It is where I feel most alive.

25. If you could pick anywhere to have exciting adventures, where would it be?
Philip Island.

I'm moving, can anyone help?
Please?

Most of the moving is going well, and I can complete all but a few items on my own. However, I'm not convinced I can move that TV without help. On the upside, thanks to moving I can offer substantially more bedspace that weekend.

I plan to rent a small van or similar for the weekend, and have got a lot of moving already done, so it shouldn't be a major hassle if I can get just a little bit of muscle to help.

My brain.

So I my alarm woke me up. I got up, turned it off, and fell asleep. I was /very/ tired.
This is about the only time I remember my dreams. They tend to be weird.

Of Faith, Buffy, and Xander which would I shag, marry, and throw of a cliff. Really bloody obvious.

Saturday Febuary 28th 2009.

Me n Kath will be getting into Manchester about 12ish, and will head down to some eatery between the city center and picadilly, where we will eat while waiting for everyone else to turn up.

Soon after that, we plan to go have a wander round some shops, specifically Afflecks, but also anything else that catches our fancy.

After this, we will head to a pub. There will likely be more food, definately some drink.

People will probably start heading off about 7, I suspect me n Kath will head of at 8 or 9.

Suggestions as to the locations of eateries #1 and #2 are welcome, as I don't know the place that well. I have a vague memory of a wetherspoons halfway between Piccadily and Afflecks, which will suffice if nothing better is suggested.

I really don't like war in books. I find it dry. You tend to need an a1 pad of paper and 4 different colours of marker to keep up with what is going on. Its full of characters who are bland and unlikeable, the ones who were likeable have usually been missing for so many pages of tactical description that you've forgotten who they are. There is desperate attempts at larger than life herocs to remind you that you are meant to care for these people. But above all, I always come away with a feeling akin to having accidently wandered into the authors living room to find him furiously masterbating over a picture of Winston Churchill.

Why [livejournal.com profile] littlefeltfangs, you must really hate [livejournal.com profile] theinsectman's latest book then? Its full of war, barely a chapter goes by without some troop movement, and some chapters are devoted entirely to how the war effort is going.

Cut for spoilers up to the first engagement of Sarn and the Empire )
